The CIC welcomed delegates of the AEWA MOP8 to the CIC-DSC Welcome Reception on the eve of the four day long meeting, which will take place between 27-30 September, 2022.

As the first AEWA MOP hosted in Hungary, attendees were given the chance to experience some of the local traditions and cultures that are unique to the historic country.

The event took place in one of Hungary’s iconic ruin bars, located in the heart of Budapest. Ruin bars can be found throughout the capital, and are characterised by their quirky and unusual furnishings which are decorated atop old foundations.

A delegation of Hungarian Hussars – a regiment of light cavalry in the national armed forces – dressed in their ceremonial uniforms marked the start of the reception by playing a drum procession, and guests were treated to a medley played by a group of local hunting horn players inside the venue.

On the menu were a selection of classic dishes from Hungary’s culinary history, including goulash and lecso (a Hungarian ratatouille).

Tamás Marghescu, Director General of the CIC, welcomed attendees to the event and warmly introduced the two other speakers for the evening.

Representing the government of Hungary was Dr. Zoltán Kovács, Hungarian Secretary of State for International Communication and Relations, who relayed the gratitude of the government for the decision to host the MOP in Budapest. Dr. Jacques Trouvilliez, Executive Secretary of AEWA, reciprocated these sentiments and extended his thanks for the efforts to maintain plans for the event, considering the one year delay caused by COVID-19.

The evening served as the perfect opportunity for delegates to meet and exchange ideas just prior to the AEWA MOP8, setting the the tone for what is shaping up to be an exciting and eventful meeting.

The CIC-DSC Welcome Reception was sponsored by the CIC, Delegations of the CIC, Dallas Safari Club (DSC), Leica Camera AG and RAUCH.
