The CIC has lost another long-standing member. József Váry, who was individual member of the CIC for 33 years, passed away at the age of 96 in Budapest, Hungary.

József Váry was born to a wealthy Hungarian family and went on to study economics at the Hungarian Royal József Nádor University in Budapest, however, after losing all his belongings after WWII, he started his professional life as a laborer in the early 1940s.

As a passionate hunter from an early age, he found ways to start a sporting career in clay pigeon shooting competitions. During his shooting career, he was named Hungarian champion 5 times, and also won a silver medal at the 1955 European Championships as part of the Hungarian national team.

As the representative of a large, German export/import company in Budapest, he was able to travel abroad often, with the decoration of his house in Budapest standing as a testimony of his many successful, foreign hunting trips.

He became a CIC member in 1973, missing only 3 General Assemblies until his resignation from the CIC in 2006 due to health reasons. In his 33 years in the CIC, he acted as a representative for Hungary on several occasions. He was also a supporter of the “Loyalty to CIC“-prize, and financed the first 100 medals and golden pins of the prize.

The CIC celebrated his 95th birthday last year with a visit to his home. (You find the full article here)
