CIC Coordination Center for Central and South-Eastern Europe

The CIC named Mr. Veljko Varicak, CIC Vice-President as CIC Coordinator for Central and South-Eastern Europe, already in November 1999 at the occasion of the BOD meeting in Budapest. With this activity, the CIC tries to achieve a close and direct cooperation of the neighbouring countries with particular emphasis on game and environment protection in the border areas. The members of this coordination group working under the motto “Game does not know borders” met in the spring in 2000 in Brdo, Slovenia, for their first meeting. One of the important results of this reunion was the agreement for cooperation of all three hunting associations of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and the basic paper on a harmonized wildlife management in border areas between the individual countries.

At the occasion of the GA in May 2001, the representatives of these countries gathered for a further reunion and took note of these positive results. On June 20, 2001 the office of the CIC Coordination for Central and South-Eastern Europe was officially inaugurated at the seat of the Hunting Association of Slovenia. Present at the inauguration ceremony was Dieter Schramm, President of the CIC, as well as representatives of the Hunting Association of Slovenia and the Secretary of State of the Republic of Slovenia for Forestry, Hunting and Fishing. Furthermore, President Dieter Schramm had the opportunity to present this initiative regarding wildlife management across borders as well at the occasion of the Forum Crans Montana. He could underline that joint efforts for the conservation of game are also perfect initiatives to create a better understanding amongst the people themselves.
