Meeting with the President of Bulgaria

On 10 November 2005 the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, received Dieter Schramm, President of the CIC - International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation as well as Hristo Mihaylov, President of the Union of Hunters and Anglers in Bulgaria (UHAB) and Head of the CIC Bulgarian Delegation for an exchange of views on conservation through sustainable use.

Dieter Schramm congratulated President Parvanov on the excellent record of Bulgaria’s wildlife management and thanked him for the strong support that Bulgaria – a founding and State Member of the CIC – gives to the organization.

Amongst the topics discussed were the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), respectively its Principles and Guidelines for the Sustainable Use of biodiversity. President Schramm could outline that these so called Addis Ababa Principles have been signed by 188 states and establish sustainable use (e.g. hunting and angling) as a basic pillar of conservation. He thanked President Parvanov for Bulgaria’s signature under this convention.

The CIC President visited Sofia for the Meeting of the CIC Coordination Group Central and Southeastern Europe, organized by UHAB on 11 November 2005 and this time focusing on “Hunting Associations and the Media”.
