55th CIC General Assembly, Marrakech
1) Welcome and reports from the last year's activities by the President and the Vice-Presidents.
Written activity report was circulated in advance. Additional briefing was provided on the agreement between the OMPO and ANUU Migratoristi (Italy) in cooperation with the FEIN (Italy) and the Laboratory of Bird Ecology and Protection – Biologycal Institute of Saint Petersburg State University (Federation of Russia) regarding the study on the reproduction status of Turdus philomelos in the Eastern Region of the Baltic. Commission members will be later on informed on the data collection of the sampling in the Artemis/UE project.
The Commission furthermore supported studies in Siberia in 2007, including:
- Contribution to development of the community based biodiversity monitoring project in the coastal Chukchi hunters’ village (Bering Sea)
- Consultation of the Russian State Game Management, the Conservation Authorities and the Hunters Association on sustainable waterbird hunting issues in relation to declining of East Asia goose populations, in three places: Anadyr (Chukotka), Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski (Kamchatka) and Vladivostok (Primorie region).
- Support of the reintroduction project of Asian population of the Aleutian Canada Goose in Kuril Island.
2) Briefing on recent AEWA activities
Bert Lenten, Executive Secretary, mentioned the current activities of AEWA including particularly the fields of special interest to hunting: reviews on hunting and trade, lead shot, single species action plans etc. He also called attention to the World Migratory Bird Day on 10 – 11 May 2008.
3) “Heavy metal content in blood and feathering of white fronted goose (Anser albifrons) shot in Moscow region”, presentation by Viacheslav Kiriyakulov, Russian Association of Hunters and Fishermen
4) “Lesser Spotted Eagle – new findings on migration”, presentation by Hilmar Freiherr v. Münchhausen, Deutsche Wildtier Stiftung
5) “Woodcock ringing programme in Wales”, presentation by Owen Williams, Welch Woodcock Club, UK
6) “Study on the reproduction of Turtle dove (Streptopelia turtur)”, presentation by Mohamed Dakki & El Ayachi Sehhar, Royal Hunting Federation of Morocco
7) Election of President and Vice-Presidents
The floor was opened to the proposal of candidates for the election of officers in 2008.
The present team: Niels Kanstrup (President), Christian Krogell, Evgeny Syroechkovski, Giovanni Bana and Raymond Pouget (Vice-Presidents) was reelected as the bureau of the Commission and as the team to follow the Commission’s integration into the new structure of CIC.
8) Miscellaneous
There was no time left for miscellaneous or for discussion. It was a clear conclusion that the meeting was too loaded with information and lacked time for interventions and discussion.
