At the occasion of CIC’s 48th General Assembly in May 2000, interested young CIC members from different nations met on the kind invitation of the German Delegation.
At this meeting the future of young hunters in the CIC was discussed. Many questions came up from how young hunters could contribute to the conservation of game and hunting to how they could represent their opinion lastingly in a society, which more and more disapproves hunting.
In addition, the participants had a strong wish for an intense opinion and information exchange concerning several topics e.g. hunting ethics, hunting politics, hunting methods and hunting traditions. It soon became clear that an appropriate structure is necessary to ensure the safety of effective young hunting politics. Thus, as a result of this meeting “CIC-Young Opinion” (CIC-YO), automatically including all CIC members under the age of 33, was created.
The young members of the German Delegation especially did a lot of detailed work in concerning the structure as well as the goals of CIC-YO.
CIC-YO introduced itself and its structure at the General Assembly of the CIC in Slovenia in May 2001. The basis for effective young hunting politics has been laid, and CIC-YO has to become the spokesman of “young” opinions inside the CIC. It wants to support international contacts between passionate and young hunters. The youth are aware of their responsibility for the future of game and hunting and will be able to contribute to this continuously.
Since 1998 there has been a lot of activity going on in Austria, Italy, Germany, France, England, Finland, etc. such as the PR+ project written by two universities to develop a marketing and communication strategy to strengthen the acceptance of hunting within the EU, a 2 days workshop “Hunting and Moral” given to CIC-YO by an expert, several CIC-YO meetings, etc.
