The Holarctique Big Game Commission

Mission

The Big Game Commission deals mainly with the management of wild ungulates, which increasingly interfere with agriculture and sylviculture. One of the central problems is the damage caused by increasing populations of big game species in the intensively used areas of Europe. Another task of this commission is the management or conservation of predators such as wolves, bears and lynx, abundant in some countries, rare in others. There is evidence for an increasing need for ecological research to preserve the habitats and ecosystems which will assure the survival of big game species in the face of the growing human population.
