The CIC is in the battle – Intergovernmental Task Force was announced
The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) announced, today, the establishment of the Intergovernmental Task Force on Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds in the Mediterranean. By uniting governments and international organizations worldwide, the newly created international alliance aims to tackle illegal killing, taking, and trade of birds, and stresses the importance of new guidelines, recommendations and action plans to stop poaching at its roots. The creation of this global coalition is a monumental step against wildlife crime. Since the Milan Declaration in 2014, Combating wildlife crime is one of the four priorities of the CIC.
“It is well known that well-regulated, sustainable hunting is an important component of conservation, since it includes demonstrable actions against illegal killing, taking, and trade of migratory birds. Therefore, combating wildlife crime is one of the four strategic initiatives of the CIC.” said George Aman, President of the CIC in his statement.
