About CIC
Our Network
As one of the world’s oldest international environmental organizations, the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC) has united hunters, scientists, and conservationists in the fight for biodiversity since 1930. Over the decades, CIC has evolved into a powerful global network, bringing together 29 state members along with partners, NGOs, and experts from over 80 countries. Our collective efforts are focused on promoting sustainable use and ensuring the preservation of wildlife for future generations.
The Network That Shaped the Conservation Movement
The CIC’s history as a global authority on conservation and sustainable use has placed it at the forefront of solving environmental challenges for nearly a century. From contributing to the founding of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (1948) and the RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands (1971) to shaping the Strategy for Sustainable Development at the Earth Summit in Rio (1992) and the Global Biodiversity Framework (2022), CIC has consistently driven global efforts to protect biodiversity.
Our Purpose
From its inception, the CIC has been dedicated to hunter-led conservation, integrating traditional practices with modern sustainability principles. We work to protect threatened landscapes and species from overdevelopment, pollution, and wildlife crime. Today, we also advocate for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), recognizing their vital role in sustainable wildlife management. CIC's purpose aligns with the Global Biodiversity Framework, promoting an inclusive and effective approach to conservation.
Our Global Network
The CIC is a global hub for conservation work, advocacy, and networking, bringing together a unique assembly of hunters, scientists, policymakers, and conservationists. Our network includes 29 state members, over 90 NGO partners, and experts from more than 80 countries. Each of CIC’s National Delegations and our 1,800 individual members contribute to this mission. They ensure that our efforts are informed by diverse perspectives and local expertise. hi tristan.
