ENCLOSURES: A DEAD-END?

Influence on game biology, conservation and hunting

SYMPOSIUM PROCEEDINGS, 2008, Sopron, Hungary

Enclosures are controversial and strongly debated! Some regard them as ‘farm’ with all management consequences, whereas others see them as a natural wildlife habitat with artificial borders. What makes the difference? Are enclosures acceptable for conservation and sustainable hunting? In order to answer these questions, the CIC, in co-operation with the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Western Hungary organised a symposium and workshop on this issue in November 2008 in Sopron, Hungary.

The papers of the proceedings elaborate on the role of hunting enclosures in wildlife management and conservation, the different types and methods of management within enclosures and on the effects of such enclosures on the environment or on animal and human health.
